Family Practice Physician/Family Medicine Residency - Faculty

Peak Vista Community Health Center Family Medicine Residency is seeking a full time Family Practice Physician to join their faculty team.  Located within a Federally Qualified Health Center, Peak Vista Family Medicine Residency’s vision is to educate and create future family physicians who are devoted to this community and to providing care within it. We are committed to provide an organized educational program, to facilitate e the resident’s ethical, professional and personal development, through education, evaluation, and to provide resident supervision that supports safe and appropriate patient care.

Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, you can enjoy an outdoor lifestyle with hiking, biking, running, skiing, paddle boarding, camping, etc. Multiple national parks and forests nearby and we have 360 days of sunshine per year!

The position offers great quality of work/life balance with four 10-hour days, minimal call, and some inpatient care may be required. 

Summary:

Provides comprehensive medical services for community patients, regardless of age or sex, on continuing basis by performing the following duties. Provides clinical supervision up to 4 residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Reviews patient file/record, including allergies, problems, medications, and immunization status.
  • Elicits and records information about patient's medical history.
  • Examines patients for symptoms or physical information.
  • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient's condition.
  • Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination, and diagnoses condition of patient.
  • Administers or prescribes treatments.
  • Determines and prescribes medication, dosage, and schedule given the patient's condition and allergies. 
  • Discusses any possible side effects to medication or immunization with patient.
  • Prescribes and administers vaccinations to immunize patient from communicable diseases.
  • Promotes health by advising patients about diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.
  • Performs surgical procedures commensurate with surgical competency.
  • Refers patients to medical specialist for consultant services when necessary for patient's well-being.
  • Documents the patient's visit including medical history, physical exam, diagnoses, and plan of action.
  • Follows up with patient regarding progress in high risk or emergency cases.
  • Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance coverage.
  • Perform phone on-call rotation approximately one weekday every 6 weeks and one weekend every 3-4 months.
  • Will perform administrative roles within the residency (example: clinical quality champion, PI/QI leadership, faculty development champion, resident remediation champion)
  • Employee demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to the Compliance Plan and conflict of interest requirements. The employee enhances the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of the department by contributing to, and participating in, departmental performance improves goals.
  • Assist the Program Director and Associate Program Director in being responsible for creating a culture throughout the residency program – including all Faculty, Residents and Support Staff – that models and incorporates Peak Vista’s core values, Peak Vista’s commitment to the mission of Community Health Centers and the model of Physicians as servant leaders in the organization and the community.
  • Participates in clinical activities:
    • Provides patient care in appropriate clinical setting.
    • Reviews patient assessments and management plans.
    • Serves as faculty/preceptor to residents.
  • Other duties may be assigned

Supervision Exercised:

Precepting clinical work for up to 4 residents per half day clinic session.  Schedule is divided between personal clinic time and administrative/precepting time.

  • Clear communication, including positive and negative feedback delivery in a non-confrontational manner
  • Achieves mastery or highly competent levels of clinical care and medical knowledge and remains up to date with advances in ambulatory care in Family Medicine
  • High degree of flexibility in scheduling day to day
  • Ability to accurately evaluate all types of medical learners and work with struggling learners during academic improvement plans

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Education: MD or DO with current ABFM and/or AOBFP Board certification
  • 3 years or more of Family Medicine experience preferred.
  • Previous faculty experience a plus.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents with post-college English fluency.  Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. 

Ability to write lectures and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. 

Ability to make effective presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management.

Math Ability:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms.

Ability to apply statistical operations to such tasks as frequency, distribution, determination of test reliability, validity and analysis.

Reasoning Ability:   

Has a working knowledge of logical dialectic and recognizes logical fallacies.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Electronic Health Records, basic Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software, and the ability to adapt to new computer software tools quickly

Certificates and Licenses:

MD or DO, ABFM or AOBFP Board-Certified, Licensure in Colorado or ability to obtain the same. BLS and ACLS required.

Per Diem and Part-time options:

The Peak Vista FMR core faculty will also consider Per Diem and Part-time applicants on a case by case basis, depending on prior experience. If an applicant were to work 3 days a week for 10-hour days (our standard days) they would be eligible for full time benefits.

Compensation (Pay): $203,132.80 to $215,113.60 based on experience.

*Other compensation may include signing bonuses, rural differentials, and relocation reimbursement.
