Job Summary (Essential Functions)

The Staff Accountant shares in the responsibility for the accurate reporting of the financial statement and supplemental data with Senior Accountants and Director of Accounting. This information will be shared with the leadership team, board of directors and external auditors. Monthly financial statements will be prepared through journal entries in accordance with GAAP, GAAS and other financial reporting standards. Supplemental ledgers such as accounts payable, fixed assets and accounts receivable and miscellaneous receipts will be reconciled and confirmed prior to recording in the general ledger in support of accurate and timely financial statement reports.  Assure supporting documentation and logic is sound for accounting entries. Identify and investigate any trends or irregularities within the accounting records and assure those concerns are brought to resolution to assure the integrity of the accounting processes and records. Assist with preparing and maintaining the annual budget, as needed. Assist with preparing data for the 990, cost reports, 5500 and financial sections of the UDS, as needed. Assist with grant accounting as needed. Prepare audit work papers.

Provide support for the accounts payable monthly accrual general journal entry (GJE). Maintain fixed asset ledgers, depreciation schedules, and property tax/exemption filings. Prepare daily deposit GJE(s). Performs general ledger account reconciliations. Provides budgetary information for capital purchases and major expenditures. Employee demonstrates knowledge of and adherence to the Compliance Plan and conflict of interest requirements. The employee enhances the effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of the department by contributing to, and participating in, departmental performance improvement goals.

Qualifications

Education: Associate’s degree required, with Bachelor’s degree preferred: Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. In some cases experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.

Work Experience: Two to three years of staff accounting experience preferred. Experience with non-profit accounting, healthcare and direct experience running supplemental accounting programs (A/P, A/R, P/R, etc.) preferred.

Cognitive Skills (Language, Math, Reasoning Ability): High language, high reasoning and critical thinking abilities.

Computer Skills: Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and experience in other accounting programs required. Experience with ADP, NexGen and PV’s accounting software preferred. Experience with Dynamics SL and FRX preferred. Ability to adapt to new software. 10 key by touch.

Other Skills: Demonstrates ability to work/manage projects. Manage priorities..

Physical Demands

Frequent standing and walking, occasional long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. Looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
