Peak Vista Community Health Centers is a non-profit healthcare organization whose mission is to provide exceptional healthcare to people facing access barriers.  We provide primary care services (medical, dental and behavioral healthcare) through 25 outpatient health centers in El Paso, Teller, Lincoln, Adams, Elbert, and Kit Carson counties.  We deliver care with our strong “Hospitality” culture.  Our organization has over 600 employees and serves over 10% of the residents in the Pikes Peak region.  Peak Vista is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).

Job Summary (Essential Functions)
This position is responsible for surveillance, investigation and evaluation of chronic diseases, injuries or conditions, and assisting in the planning and implementation of epidemiological programs to prevent and control diseases, injuries or conditions.  The Epidemiologist will support the creation, maintenance and implementation of a community-wide assessment strategy encompassing direct patient care, ancillary and enabling services and other critical psycho-social support networks that encompass the depth and breadth of 'health equity'.  The Epidemiologist will also be responsible for developing and conducting on-going Peak Vista program evaluation, as part of an environment of continuous improvement and efficiency.  The position reports to the Director of Community Assessment, and exercises no direct oversight of staff.

  • Determine and utilize appropriate statistical methods to evaluate and interpret data.
  • Develop community-based and agency-based trending reports, both technical and non-technical, based on data collection and analysis using epidemiological methodology.
  • Convene, facilitate and participate in work groups, internally and with the larger community around trend analysis and findings.
  • Collaborate with local Health Departments, supporting analytical studies and research projects as appropriate.
  • Support community research, understanding, development and implementation of strategies to advance health equity
  • Supports multiple Departments engaged in data interpretation and community messaging around health and wellness issues.
  • Assist in the development of evaluation and assessment plans tied to agency's strategic plans, including operating and funding strategies.
  • Strengthen and support community efforts to coalesce and from strategic alliances to address Health disparities and economic inequities.
  • Understand and appreciate the social determinants of health and how they affect people's lives.
  • Perform related and 'other duties' as assigned.


Qualifications

  • MPH in Epidemiology preferred, will also consider Master's Degree biological sciences or related field, (with additional significant course work in epidemiological methods, other epidemiological related research, and statistical methodology and analysis)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with field work, including data analysis to identify community trends and developing intervention strategies.
  • Experience with SPSS (statistical Package for the Social Sciences) analytics software.
  • Familiarity with Crimson software suite preferred, other Population Health suites also acceptable.
  • Experience preparing educational materials for public distribution preferred.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, effectively, and persuasively, both orally and in writing, with recognition of and sensitivity to various levels of understanding.

  • Ability to remain controlled and effective during fast-paced, stressful situations
