Job Summary (Essential Functions)

The Authorization Representative's primary responsibility will be to support the determination of behavioral health benefits and pre-authorization prior to the patient's date and time.  The Authorization Representative will participate in charge posting, billing of services, and follow on behavioral health claims.  The Authorization Representative will work in a corroborative, team environment by establishing strong working relationships with Payers, patients, providers, billing staff, and clinic staff.  The Authorization Representative must also display strong detailed oriented skills with the proven ability to multitask; handling multiple patient pre-authorization requests at a time.  Medical terminology will be used daily.  Knowledge of billing systems is needed.  The Authorization position and job functions is a value-added service requiring commitment to Peak Vista's Core Values.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Work Experience: Medical terminology desired, understands medical and financial confidentiality, minimum 1-2 years’ experience in healthcare preferred

Cognitive Skills (Language, Math, and Reasoning Ability): Must have superior communication and customer service skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a timely manner, ability to communicate in person, by phone and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner, ability to reason and prioritize responsibilities effectively and ability to resolve problems with minimal assistance.

Computer Skills: Data entry skills required, expedient and accurate use of 10 key and basic computer skills required.

Other Skills: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, Payment balancing experience desired. ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding desired. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers. Must be able to assist team members in the performance of their duties as workload permits to ensure departmental and company success


Physical Demands

Frequent standing and walking, occasional long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements, and frequent fine motor skills. Looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. Must be able to lift 20 pounds
