Job Summary (Essential Functions)

The primary purpose of this position is to handle transcription responsibilities for providers during patient encounters. Accompanies provider and directly observes patient encounters. Responsible for accurately documenting the provider’s encounter with the patient and others present in a manner that result in appropriate medical charting. The Medical Scribe also completes transcription activities necessary to assist with processing of provider orders for tests and medications. The Medical Scribe is responsible for accurate, timely charting of patient encounters, including but not limited to patient history, physical exam, diagnostic findings, laboratory and test results, treatment course, diagnosis, discharge instructions and prescriptions.  Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program/Certified EMT preferred or other licensed healthcare professional such Certified Nurse Assistant. If a graduate of a Medical Assistant program candidate must obtain Registered/Certified certification within 30 days of hire.  Military applicants accepted with equivalent training and registered/certified certification.

Work Experience: Previous ambulatory care experience preferred.

Cognitive Skills (Language, Math, Reasoning Ability): High language, math, reasoning and critical thinking abilities.

Computer Skills: Basic computer knowledge required, keyboarding skills. Able to use all functions of electronic medical record software. Must accurately enter data into database, search for information, send and receive email and attachments. Must be able to type words and numbers quickly and accurately; must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.

Other Skills: Medical Terminology

Certificates & Licenses: If Medical Assistant or EMT must have MA certificate; current CPR (BCLS) certification; Registered/Certified Certification; EMT certificate.


Physical Demands

Frequent standing and walking, occasional long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements, and frequent fine motor skills.  Looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. Must be able to lift 20 pounds
