Job Summary (Essential Functions)

 This position is responsible for providing day to day troubleshooting and support for Grant Writing staff. The primary focus of the Grants Department is the development of competitive grants in response to government and private sector offerings. The Lead Grant Writer ensures that Grant staff is working in coordination with Finance and other organizational departments to ensure grant development and compliance. This position ensures that Grant staff receives on-going support and training in various aspects of grant development and reporting; acts as on the ground “go to” person supporting the effective and efficient coordination of all relevant activities. Acts as preliminary reader of foundation and federal grants; is directly responsible for developing, managing and reporting on State grant-originated contracts. The Lead Grant Writer participates in monthly reconciliation meetings, in conjunction with the Finance Department, to ensure visibility to grant-funded program performance. As a member of the Community Programs Division, the Grants team shares responsibility for ensuring compliance with federal, state and local requirements supporting Peak Vista’s role as a Federally Qualified Health Center, and as a key partner in the statewide healthcare safety net. In addition, the role is responsible for fostering an environment of continuous improvement and efficiency. The Lead Grant Writer position reports to the Grants Manager, and exercises no direct oversight.

Supports Grant Writing staff in the development of concise and cohesive grants that are responsive to funder requirements and Peak Vista goals. Collaborates with Clinical and Administrative Departments for grant seeking in support of both internal programming and community-based activities. Foster cohesive ‘hospitality’ orientation among departmental staff, recognizing that Community Assessment and Grants support the various departments within the agency in attaining the organizational mission. Participate in various teams as necessary. Perform related and ‘other duties’ as assigned.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in English/Technical Writing, Journalism, Communications, Business or equivalent expereince in grant writing, fundraising, research and/or non-profit administration.

Work Experience: Minimum 2 years' experience developing grant proposals, including budget presentations, is required.  Technical writing experience will be considered.  Specific experience with governmental grants/contracts preferred.  Experience writing for health-related fields preferred.  GPC or AGWA credential, or work toward examination, is desirable.

Computer Skills:  Proficiency with Microsoft Office - including Work, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer and keyboarding skills required.  Experience with SharePoint preferred.  Ability to learn required online submission and reporting software. 

Other Skills:  Must be innovative, detail oriented, self-motivated and professional.  Ability to develop and deliver presentations and facilitate meetings with multiple internal and community partners.

Physical Demands

Frequent standing and walking, occasional long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements, and frequent fine motor skills.  Looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range.  Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
