Job Summary (Essential Functions)

Under the direction of the VP of Logistics, the Director of Construction will be responsible for the budge, contracts, vendor management and the timely completion of smaller projects.  Additional responsibilities will include assisting the VP of Logistics in larger projects, over $2M.  Typical duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor and ensure that construction materials & methods meet the project design and specifications
  • Monitor Value Engineering aspects of projects
  • Assist in the review and approval of blueprints and project documents
  • Ensure Life Safety procedures and equipment are installed, effective and continuously maintained throughout the project
  • Complies charts and graphs for in-house presentations and record keeping for all constructions projects
  • Bidding, contacting and execution of the annual Deferred Maintenance program; approximately 25 projects totaling $3-5 million annually
  • Bidding, contacting and managing landscaping and snow removal for 24 sites

Reports to the VP of Logistics
Supervises Draftperson

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years of Construction Management experience on projects greater than $1 million is required.
BS degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred, however additional years of experience in health care will be considered
Construction experience in the medical industry preferred

Strong knowledge of building codes and Life Safety codes are required
Strong communication skills are required and the ability to assimilate data and present findings in group meetings is preferred
Understanding of construction accounting procedures is required
Ability to work in a team environment is required
Strong skills in MS Project, Power Point and Microsoft Office is required, strong AutoCAD skills are (preferred)
Working knowledge of building systems, electrical distribution, HVAC, plumbing and landscaping preferred

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently or occasionally required to: sit, stand, or walk, climb, stoop, crouch and step over obstacles.  Lift and/or move up to 30 lbs. Work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.  Work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather.  Work in environment with dust, loud noise and/or vibrations.
