Peak Vista Community Health Centers is a nonprofit health care organization whose mission is to provide exceptional health care to people facing access barriers through clinical programs and education. We provide integrated health care services to include medical, dental and behavioral health throughout 26 outpatient health centers within El Paso, Teller, Lincoln, Adams, Elbert and Kit Carson counties. We deliver care with our strong “Hospitality” culture. Our organization has over 950 employees and serves more than 94,000 patients annually in the Pikes Peak and East Central regions of Colorado. Peak Vista is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).

The Vice President of Clinical Education (VP CE) provides leadership and oversight in the planning, development, and delivery of all Continuing Clinical Education (CCE) programs conducted under the auspices of Peak Vista. The VP CE reports directly to the Chief Medical and Dental Officer (CMDO) and has direct supervision of the Director of Medical Education, Director of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Fellowship, the Director of Academic Affairs, and other Peak Vista clinical education programs leading to a professional credential or certificate.

In this capacity, the VP CE directs, supports, and monitors the development and provision of effective medical education training programs for all levels of trainees, ensuring that programs provide access to training that addresses the necessary competences for each level and specialty.

General Functions
 

Administrative

  • The VP CE serves as Chairperson for the Continuing Clinical Education Committee (CCEC)
  • With the CCEC and in partnership with the Director of Medical Education (DME), the APRN Program Director, the Director of Academic Affairs, and any other future Program Directors, the VP CE is responsible for setting the strategic direction for all CCE programs in accordance with the overall mission and objectives of Peak Vista, and for ensuring compliance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACGME), Association of Osteopathic Accreditation (AOA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and other criteria-based accreditation systems.
  • It is the responsibility of the VP CE to report to the CMDO the annual plan for CCE, and to keep the leadership apprised of the ongoing status of CCE at Peak Vista
  • The VP CE actively participates with the DME, program directors, and various related staff committees to recommend policies, and to provide leadership in all phases of the development of CCE
  • The VP CE obtains financial, and/or administrative support for appropriate physical facilities, equipment, and personnel support
  • The VP CE is responsible for fiscal accountability of the institution's CCE program

         Planning

  • The VP CE, in partnership with the Clinical Education Advisory Committee (CEAC) and Peak Vista leadership, is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of a multi-year Strategic plan which articulates a cleared defined CCE vision
  • The VP CE is responsible for seeking and initiating potential educational partnerships with appropriate external educational entities, and for maintaining existing educational partner relationships as appropriate
  • The VP CE, in partnership with the DME, and Program Directors, develops and submits an annual operating plan and budget for CCE
  • The VP CE supports the selection and recruitment of faculty to meet specific educational needs
  • The VP CE, with support from the CEAC, develops a plan to conduct an overall CEAC program evaluation which includes identifying program changes or improvements, and measuring the impact of those program changes or improvements
  • The VP CE, with support from the CCEC, incorporates into the CCE efforts new developments in the fields of continuing education and professional development that may be used to advance goals and objectives, including new techniques, materials, and learning/teaching methodologies

General and Operations

  • Collaborates with other senior leaders to assure all CCE programs and trainees are integrated into Peak Vista operations and culture
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates educational innovations, and ensures there is a system in place to foster scholarly activity
  • Champions continuous quality improvement in the provision of medical training within Peak Vista
  • Promotes inter-disciplinary learning and the sharing of best practices
  • Ensures the provision of high quality library and information services to faculty, staff, and trainees
  • Supports and monitors the progress of trainees and faculty by ensuring timely appraisals
  • Ensures that poor performance is recognized early in conjunction with program directors and addressed appropriately in conjunction with the human resources lead

Qualifications

  • Current and valid board certification as a physician
  • Medical degree from an accredited medical school and completion of an approved residency
  • Licensed to practice medicine in state of Colorado
  • Current DEA registration
  • Five years of experience as a board certified physician

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of health services
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
