Description

Chief Medical and Dental Officer (CMDO) for highly regarded FQHC, 27 centers offering exceptional medical, dental and behavioral healthcare. This is a tremendous opportunity for a physician leader with vision and a passion for community health to focus on clinical strategy and development of innovative programs.

The Chief Medical and Dental Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer, is a key member of the Executive Team, engaged in defining the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. In addition, this position leads and shares the overall clinical vision for the organization. The position provides clinical and dental oversight, expertise and leadership to ensure the delivery of affordable quality healthcare services through integrated, team based care. Responsibilities also include the strategy, development and implementation of innovative clinical programs that include collaboration with strategic business partners. Manages and directs the organization toward its primary objectives, based on profit and return on capital, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • The Chief Medical and Dental Officer is a member of the Peak Vista Executive Leadership Team.
  • Responsible for clinical and dental providers, acts as liaison between administration and clinical staff and assures patients receive quality care.
  • Develops clinical leaders from within the medical/dental/behavioral health and pharmacy staff to support succession planning.
  • Conducts regular clinical staff meetings, approves procedures and processes for continuing professional education and personal time off requests and orients new provider staff.
  • As physician executive, the Chief Medical and Dental Officer takes an active role in such things as: strategic planning, product development, budget development, management of provider salary line item and corporate oversight.
  • Works closely with Executive Vice President, Chief Nursing and Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer to support successful clinical operations through adequate provider staff coverage to meet corporate goals, provide for a positive patient experience and maximum provider satisfaction.
  • Weekly clinical time for a minimal panel of patients.
  • Represents PVCHC to the community and outside agencies such as medical societies, hospitals, professional organizations and community groups.
  • Other essential duties include: attendance at Board meetings and leadership in the Board’s Quality Improvement Committee, participating in personnel matters relating to clinical staff to include hiring, disciplinary action and terminations.
  • Develops and implements the federal grant health care plan. Assures external quality measures are identified and reached. Chairs pharmacy and therapeutics committee.
  • Delegate specific duties to the VPs of Medical, Behavior Health, and Dental and Director of Pharmacy as needed. Plans, coordinates, and controls the daily operation of the organization through the organization's managers.

Supervision Exercised: Vice Presidents of Medical and Dental

Qualifications:

  • Work Experience: At least ten years of medical practice experience required, including integrated healthcare, pain management, behavioral health, primary care. At least five years of health care administrative leadership experience, to include previous experience as a department head, chief of staff, or medical director.
  • Cognitive Skills: Must possess excellent cognitive skills. Clinical skills should be at a level so as to command respect from the clinical staff. Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills. Practice management skills and experience preferred.

Education/Experience:

Must possess a M.D. or D.O. Board certification in a primary care specialty. Should obtain continuing education in both medical and management arenas.

Certificates and Licenses:

Certificate & Licenses: Must possess active Colorado medical license. Expectation that physician maintain active membership in Colorado Medical Society and El Paso County Medical Society. Must be eligible to participate in Medicare/Medicaid. Must be eligible for hospital privileges in local hospitals.
