Job Summary:
Provides assistance to dentist during examinations and treatment of two patients an hour working independently with the provider. Prepares dental treatment room setup, cleans and sterilizes operative instruments using chemical disinfectants and autoclave. Monitors and maintains any updates on the forms in the dental chart. Take blood pressure when needed, review the medical history of the patient for any pertinent information and pass to the dentist. Performs the functions of an EDDA as a separate schedule as assigned and under the supervision of a licensed dentist: Phone in prescriptions under direction of the dentist; Complete laboratory authorization forms; Monitor and respond to postsurgical bleeding; Perform coronal polishing procedures; Place amalgam for condensation; Apply topical fluoride; Select and manipulate gypsums and waxes; Perform supragingival scaling and removal of permanent cement; Evaluate radiographs for diagnostic quality; Provide patient preventive education and oral hygiene instruction; Provide pre- and post-operative instructions; Place and remove dental dam; Pour, trim, and evaluate the quality of diagnostic casts; Using the concepts of fourhanded dentistry, assist with basic restorative procedures, including prosthodontics and restorative dentistry, assist with basic intraoral surgical procedures, including extractions, periodontics, endodontics; Identify intraoral anatomy; Place, cure and finish composite resin restorations; Clean and polish removable appliances and prostheses; Apply pit and fissure sealants; Place orthodontic separators; Size, fit and place stainless steel crowns; Take preliminary and final impressions; Place and remove matrix bands; Fabricate and place temporary crowns; Maintain field of operation during dental procedures through, the use of retraction, suction, irrigation, drying, etc.; Perform vitality tests; Carve amalgams;  Place and remove temporary  fillings, crowns and cements ; Monitor nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia under direct supervision, if certified analgesia delivery may start under indirect supervision; Place and remove periodontal and  post-extraction dressings; Fabricate custom trays- impression and bleaching trays, athletic mouthguards; Recognize and respond to basic medical and basic dental emergencies; fee sheets are accurate for the front desk staff. Send out the patient reminder cards monthly. Assist in the orientation of extern dental assistants and new dental assistant staff in technical duties . Works with the purchasing department to order dental supplies. Provide back-up for primarily assigned tech in sterilization as needed. Cross train and assist in the front desk area for coverage as needed.  Required to have a current Colorado's driver's license, occasional travel to all dental clinics Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


Education: High School graduate or GED required.   Certificate of completion of an Expanded Duties Dental Assistant's Course required; current CPR certification required, X-ray certification required. Nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia certification preferred.

Work Experience: At least 1 year EDDA experience in a dental office preferred.

Cognitive Skills (Language, Math, Reasoning Ability): Ability to correctly perform basic math and reading skills as needed for super bill transactions, bilingual a plus (English/Spanish)

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills desirable

Other Skills:

Certificates & Licenses: Certificate of completion of an Expanded Duties Dental Assistants Course required. X-Ray certification required.  Nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia certification preferred.  Current Colorado Driver's License required.

Physical Demands:
Frequent standing and walking, occasional long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements, and frequent fine motor skills. Looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
