Peak Vista Community Health Centers is a non-profit healthcare organization whose mission is to provide exceptional healthcare to people facing access barriers.  We provide primary care services (medical, dental and behavioral healthcare) through 26 outpatient health centers in El Paso, Teller, Lincoln, Adams, Arapahoe, Elbert, and Kit Carson counties.  We deliver care with our strong “Hospitality” culture.  Our organization has over 800 employees and serves 90,000 patients in the Pikes Peak & East Central Plains region.  Peak Vista is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).

Job Summary (Essential Functions)

Directs the organization's financial planning and accounting practices as well serves as a contact for financial matters with the board, lending institutions and the financial community.

 

The Four Aspects of the CFO

Today’s CFOs are expected to play four diverse and challenging roles. The two traditional roles are steward, preserving the assets of the organization by minimizing risk and getting the books right, and operator, running a tight finance operation that is efficient and effective. It’s increasingly important for CFOs to be strategists, helping to shape overall strategy and direction, and catalysts, instilling a financial approach and mind set throughout the organization to help other parts of the business perform better.

 

CFO – Steward

Accounting, control, risk management and asset preservation are the province of the Steward. The Steward must ensure compliance with financial reporting and control requirements. Information quality and control rationalization are top-of-mind issues for the Steward.

  • Oversight of accounting processes & accounting staff (with the Audit Committee of the Board).
  • Lead audit and tax reporting processes.
  • Financial reporting to stakeholders (donors, leadership, the board & its committees, auditors, regulators & accountability organizations, and the general public.)
  • Oversee Insurance coverage and insurance policy structures (with the Audit Committee of the Board).
  • Lead Enterprise Risk Management (Assessment) task force.

 

CFO – Operator

Efficiency and service levels are the primary areas of focus for the Operator. The Operator must dynamically balance cost and service levels in delivering on the organization's responsibilities, and adapt operating model as necessary.

  • Work with relationship managers in “troublesome asset” situations.
  • Serve as prime contact with key vendors.
  • Talent management.
  • Shared Service Decisions

CFO – Strategist

The Strategist is a director, focused on defining the future of the organization to enhance performance and value. The Strategist provides a financial perspective on innovation and profitable growth; leverages this perspective to improve risk-awareness, strategic decision-making and performance management integration; and translates the expectations of external audiences into internal business imperatives.

  • Oversee budgeting, including development of a three-year rolling budget process.

CFO – Catalyst

The Catalyst is an agent for change, focused on establishing a value attitude throughout the organization. The Catalyst gains alignment to identify, evaluate and execute strategies, and serves as a partner to other decision makers. The Catalyst establishes a structure of enterprise accountability for results, drives enterprise execution and gains acceptance from management as the organization's catalyst.

  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team, working with others to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Serve as an example and advocate of the Peak Vista values, mission statement, vision and quality improvement philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • A member of the senior leadership management team and steward of the corporation’s assets.
  • Assures monthly financials are prepared based on GAAP, and information delivered to leadership and the board of directors, as it pertains to billing requirements and reporting obligations meets Single Audit standards.
  • Maintains compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Works as an Executive Team member reporting to the CEO to provide strategic information for corporate decision making.
  • Forecasts revenues and expenses to support decision process.
  • Assures maximization of revenues and program expenses are sustainable.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Master’s degree in business and/or be a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management

Accountant. Healthcare and/or not-for-profit professional experience required. Minimum three years senior management, supervisory skills, experience with budgets and internal audits, forecasts and strategic financial planning.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Accounting software; Internet software and Database software.

 

Certificates and Licenses: CPA required and CMA strongly recommended
