Description

Peak Vista Community Health Centers is a non-profit healthcare organization whose mission is to provide exceptional healthcare to people facing access barriers.  We provide primary care services (medical, dental and behavioral healthcare) through 25 outpatient health centers in El Paso, Teller, Lincoln, Adams, Elbert, and Kit Carson counties.  We deliver care with our strong “Hospitality” culture.  Our organization has over 600 employees and serves over 10% of the residents in the Pikes Peak region.  Peak Vista is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).

Job Summary (Essential Functions)

As a member of the Peak Vista (or Executive) team and a steward of the corporation’s assets and operations, the Chief Legal Officer is directly responsible to the President and CEO and shall supervise the Vice Presidents of Business Compliance and Human Resources.  The Chief Legal Officer will have direct involvement in the budgeting process through coordination with the Chief Financial Officer and have responsibility and accountability for assuring the Operations and Compliance plans and budgets are fully implemented and meet standards, and have such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the President and CEO.
 
Areas of focus include developing and implementing a comprehensive compliance program that assures the integrity and protection of Peak Vista’s assets and programs.  Will support the legal and compliance section of strategic initiatives; research and planning of new programs; project implementation, tracking and coordination; contract negotiations, and resource allocation. . Responsible to assure contracts are developed and reviewed  meeting Peak Vista’s standards.  Serves as liaison with other agency leads where assigned.  Must support a culture of hospitality.  Must be proficient in Human Resource laws to ensure state and federal requirements are met, and staff understand roles and responsibilities.  Presents information to staff, management and the Board of Directors as directed by the President and CEO, and as appropriate for corporate decision making.  Assures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.  Must demonstrate experience as an agent for change, improvement and overall excellence. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education:  Colorado JD License

Work Experience:Minimum five years senior management, supervisory skills, not-for profit and healthcare industry experience preferred.  Systems thinking approach. Ability to compose documents for internal and external use; presentation skills for a variety of audiences, and strong prioritization skills needed. 

Cognitive Skills (Language, Math, Reasoning Ability): Critical thinking skills required.

Computer Skills: General knowledge of information technology contracting needed.

Other Skills: Advanced knowledge of compliance and continuous improvement activities, especially related to health care billing, grants, IT, vendor and payor contracts, employee practices, patient rights and AAAHC.  Ability to participate in strategic planning for PVCHC patients to receive the highest level of care.  Skilled in identifying and learning workflows to better address and/or solve challenges within the organization.

Certificates & Licenses: Colorado JD license in good standing.



Physical Demands

Frequent standing and walking, occasional long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements, and frequent fine motor skills. Looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
